This generation is the most privileged and distracted generation. Life becomes comfortable. Everything is available to them.
Now ordering home delivery food to booking taxi by using app, searching, collecting information, finding any unknown location or study material is a just matter of click or touch.
Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa makes the situation easier. You don’t need to work hard, just ask your question about anything, the device will reply about your queries.
It’s the era of social media. Smart phone sales are boosting up. Chatting, texting and sexting is increasing in social media. People want to become famous Youtubers, Instagram celebrities, emphasizing on social media profiles and trying to be connected online most of the day.
Relationships between two people happens very quickly and ends within a short period of time. They don’t have humble, amiable, sharing, exuberant mentality. Changing boyfriend and girlfriend is a matter of time.
New generation is going in Graveyard of Depression
Most of the young people don’t like outdoor sports or socializing. Instead, they love to play games on their smart phones or Xbox one x hours after hours and busy with online chatting. On the bus, train or flight, most of the people are busy with their phones or gadgets. In fact, most of the young people spend much more time with their gadgets rather than friends, family members or siblings.
Peer pressure of getting success is another problem. Every people want to show-off the perfect life in social media or other online platform. They feel extreme pressure when they don’t meet with standards of society.
People love to compare their life with other people. Here, success criteria is determined by how much money, the number of house, Lamborghini or Porsche car you possess. Today’s generation is obsessed with the materialistic happiness.
Now-a-days young people have unlimited source of entertainment at online and offline. They are more busy with entertainment, relationship problem rather than focusing on academic result or entrepreneurship. As a result, they are getting poor marks in the exam. Even most of them don’t have proper focus on life.
People don’t have proper food habits. They are highly depending on KFC, MacDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut and Subway. Obesity is increasing among young people
Drug, porn, weed, alcohol, gaming industry is enhancing their business by using the enthusiasm and curiosity of young people. It’s going to be a big trouble. People don’t know how to get rid of bad habits. They don’t know how to focus on their work without distraction.
Multinational companies are targeting young people to increase profits. They encourage consumerism. As a result, you are shopping unnecessary products which are not required. You are wasting your money. Later, you are facing financial crisis.
Unemployment problem is arising. Most of the companies are trying to lay off the staffs. People are feeling helpless not getting job or after losing job at their early age.
Unequal distribution of wealth is another reason. World’s most wealth is possessed by 10% people. Deprivation is increasing gradually. Rich are becoming richer, poor are becoming poorer.
Political situation of some countries are becoming extremely turmoil. Terrorism and fundamentalism are increasing. Young people are misguided.
Millions of people are leaving their own country due to the civil war and take shelter in another country as a immigrant or refugee. Most of them don’t have better life style and face difficulty to cope with the new situation and culture of another country. The number of refugee is increasing who don’t have a minimum life standard.
The idol of today’s generation is Instagram Model or controversial Youtuber instead of Nelson Mandela, Che Guevara, Helen Keller, Martin Luther King Jr. who contributed a lot in the society to change the world.
Child marriage and domestic violence on girls is a regular incident in many countries. That’s a big issue. When it is the age of playing with toys and reading story books, female child has to maintain the strict rules of marriage in third world country.
In our society, ethics and family bonding are becoming weak. Parents don’t have time for their children. They are extremely busy with their career.
Increasing separation and divorce rate among parents. It creates huge impact on children. The number of single parents is increasing. Children either live with Dad or Mom.
Teenage pregnancy is a social reality and carrying a baby at early age brings enormous stress in young mother’s life. Teen people don't have enough maturity about relationship or parenting. Most of the cases, they don’t know how to rear children. Besides, they are not emotionally stable. Later, separation or divorced is occurred between teen parents.
This is the total unrest situation of the present world. It has a huge impact on the mindset of new generation. Consequently, loneliness, anxiety, stress, sadness, stress in increasing. When the situation goes to long term, it forms into depression.
That’s the direct and indirect reasons for enhancing depression and frustration in the society. Consequently, our new generation is easily get depressed by failing to get rid of the negativity.
New generation is going in Graveyard of Depression
The reason why people get depressed is because we are gradually becoming more unnatural in a natural world.
“Natural” drugs like sleep, sex, food, going outside, not socializing and being active are replaced with chronic lack of sleep, porn, fast food, staying sedentary by going on the Internet or playing video games/whatever fad there is, social media, and unnatural drugs. (Drugs, in this case, meaning things that make you feel good.)
We as human beings are a social species. We’re meant to interact with people. We’re meant to be physically active. We’re meant to go outside (ever heard of Seasonal Affective Disorder?). We’re meant to eat high-quality, healthy foods. We’re meant to get a certain amount of sleep, with good “sleeping hygiene”.
What’s worse is that a lot of parents are well, bad. I’m sure there are plenty of well-adjusted adults who use the Internet and have become acclimated to the trends of the current Generation. The main difference being that they also are in tune with their natural selves.
Comfort in excessive doses will not do you any good. Pain and challenge are a part of life, and should be embraced. Of course, pain can also destroy character; not just build it. The key is balance, or a well proportioned ratio. Kids should be given chores. They should be moderated on their usage of technology.
Sadly, we live in a world that’s only becoming more expensive to live in. Healthcare, education, housing, and other rapidly rising costs make it difficult for there to be the ideal “family value” household. It’s said that children function best with one parent at home, while the other works to support the family.
On top of that, by the time these children are raised, they’re sent to work in a world that doesn’t have as many opportunities as the generations before them. With the impending threat of automation (which has already taken away jobs), the lack of opportunities (unless your dreams are in STEM, medicine, specialized business degrees like accounting or finance, as well as the trades), and the debt you have to incur while pursuing your ambitions, it’s not exactly the most opportune moment to be alive.
Social media adds insult to injury. We as human beings will naturally compare ourselves. It makes us feel good to know we’re not the only one to fail a test when we get results back. Social media has become the “test of life”, and now we feel we fail when we see someone doing better than us, or accomplishing more at a younger age.
Lastly, and I say this as someone who used to struggle with depression: depression is not a choice. However, not wanting to get better is. There are things we can do to improve our situations. (I’m not saying this as a universal rule of thumb, of course.) Whether it’s eating better, doing things that make you feel good, or whatever the case may be - we can improve our lives. It just takes a little bit of a push. After all, if you’re going through hell, you should keep going. Why would you stop in hell?
