10 Things I'd tell my younger self : Advice for Teens | Healthymedilife

Teenage years are known for mood swings, severe depression, stress, anxiety, behavioral problems and also serious conditions like ADHD, bipolar disorder, OCD, etc. Sometimes it becomes very tough for an individual to handle oneself through these situations. Suicide rates are increasing among teens day by day
Teenage is the most important phase of your life, you mostly make your life long character traits now. Your character is developing , make it well rounded by gathering as varied an experience as you can gather. Don’t be afraid of failures because they won’t likely affect you for the long term.

Just keep this Advices in mind ...
Here are 10 Things I'd tell my younger self to live teenage happily and successful -

1] Remember that a Smart driver is more impressive than a fast driver

We all know that age-old statistic that motorcycles are inherently more dangerous than cars. Still that doesn’t stop millions of people around the world from jumping on one and going for the ride of their life ! You should always leave plenty of room between yourself and the vehicles in front of and behind you. This will give you enough space and time to react in case the unexpected happens. Remember, most motorcycle accidents are caused by other drivers. Proper safety gear like a helmet, jacket, pants, gloves and boots, are essential to keeping you safe in the event of an accident. Bright gear makes you more visible to other drivers, and protective eye wear keeps your delicate eyeballs safe and glued to the road.  A good jacket, gloves and boots will help keep you warm and dry while protecting you from road debris, and can even protect your skin in an accident. Wearing full gear can also help boost rider confidence.
2] Hunting for real life Savita bhabhi could be your biggest mistake

Such ugly thoughts sowed at your age would reap a man who will make illicit relations with multiple women at later stage. This may give you momentary pleasure but in case you are not as lucky as some people, may also result in life long STDs/ HIV etc. How about if her husband imposes IPC 497 adultry charges on you ? You may land in jail for up to 5 years plus free social Jaikaara of your name in neighborhood. Interestingly such fantasy women are also equally guilty of moral misconduct but our India’s law will not punish them because a female who has Indian citizenship is considered as holy as river Ganga who can not commit such sins in the eyes of law. We know that your body hormones are on rise and you can’t do much about it but still control your thoughts & actions as much as possible. You would not want to spoil your 5 precious years in imprisonment that can be utilized for many other types of enjoyment.
3] Avoid doing high voltage propaganda of your future plans
It is observed that teens are more likely to shout from the rooftop if they have any plan to do something.
For example:-
  • You know what ? Government will provide me a car & security personnel after I become an IAS officer. Just wait for 2 years and see the magic.
  • I will easily get a high paying job in the US after my BCA is completed. Then the same person is found as a data entry operator.
  • As the whole class knows that I am an expert of Shares & Debentures chapter (12th standard) now no one can stop me from becoming a chartered accountant. In fact I am already no less than a chartered accountant. The difference is that he has an official seal and I don’t have that.
  • After I clear my IIT, then I will not go to the companies for the interview. Companies will come to me. They are in real need of intelligent candidates.
You may be able to impress that stupid little girl with such funny baseless things but this will certainly not help accomplish your future goals.
Dear teenagers, Fully grown adults have experienced that such childish propagandas are more likely to fail and people who work hard silently are the real achievers. If you can’t help then at least keep some tablets of Hajmola in your pocket and give it to the person whom you say all that. Else he may experience digestive issues.
4] Stop that public display of money & power that you don’t even have
Teenagers have a tendency to show off about their power or contacts that most of the times don’t even exist. A teenager who boasts that his uncle is an S.H.O in local area police station does not tell you that his uncle and father are already engaged in a severe property dispute and that S.H.O uncle does not even speak to his own brother’s family. Sometimes such S.H.O uncle does’t even exist. My dear boy, there are legendary giants even in the arena of power. Please do not boast or try to take the law in your little soft hands and do your best to bring back your focus to hit the actual target of your life. Else there is also Juvenile law for minors. Such court for children may not punish you hard but your parents will be indirectly punished so badly. Can you see them in pain ?
You throw unnecessary parties at your friends, own expensive mobile phones amounted INR 20,000- 50,000, put extreme pressure on parents to buy a new car/ bike and home in a better area just to pretend that you are a rich fellow without realizing the fact that your father sometimes does not even board the auto rickshaw and comes back to home by walking in order to save Rs 10 and mother spends 10 minutes extra to negotiate the price by just Rs 5 with Vegetable vendor. I salute your mother and father from the bottom of my heart for going out of the way to fulfill your unreasonable demands. My dear friend, it is perfectly normal for every teenager to not to have money or vehicle but extremely abnormal is when pockets of a teenager are filled with hundreds of currency notes and credit cards.
5] Companies are trying hard through advertisements to embarrass you about your pimples & other physical aspects. Beware !! it’s a conspiracy
It is more than perfectly normal if you have pimples on your face. Every person (this includes dashing John Abraham and hot Priyanka Chopra too) experiences pimple issue at some point of his and her life. I also had severe pimples on my face and I can make sure that no cream or medicine will be able to completely solve the matter like they show in TV commercials. This issue may have multiple treatments but just one permanent cure and that is time. Unfortunately, many companies want to embarrass you about your skin and skin related normal issues. Be proud if you have an Indian skin complexion and feel highly satisfied if you have pimples because only an old person has the immunity against this problem. If you are young then pimples would most likely appear. It is a natural phenomenon.
May be one day that pimple scar on your face will become a style symbol and people would spend money to create such a mark artificially too. Ever wondered why did so many youngsters spent money to create that stupid Ghajini cut mark on their head ? The answer is because Amir Khan is a famous actor and holds influencing capability. So be a man of success instead of caring too much about such petty issues.
Still want some tips for pimples? Alright. Let me share 4 tips based on my own experience.
  • Make a paste of Green grass powder (Cynodon dactylon), Neem (Azadirachta indica) powder, Turmeric powder, Clay and any powdered cereal. Apply on pimples and leave it for few hours. You may also eat few leaves of Neem in the morning.
  • Make very sure than you don’t have dandruffs on head. If you do, then take care of it first. It may significantly resolve the issue to a great extent.
  • Do not use soaps and hair gels at all and don’t let the hair oil reach your face as it may clog the skin pores. For facial cleansing you may use mixture of Gram flour, Clay and Turmeric.
  • Never pop your pimples else it will spread even more.
6] Wear appropriate clothing according to the climate
It is funny to observe that some teenager girls wear short skirts and do not wear woolens in winter season when the temperature is around 5 degree Celsius but certainly wear full sleeves gloves / masks in summers while riding two wheeler when we can’t even tolerate an underwear. Can you really defeat the climate ? People don’t look legitimate with such a silly approach. What happens when a swimmer swims against the flow of ocean waves ? A wise swimmer will always swim with the flow of major wave. Going against it will only crush his bones. So always comply with the climate and wear appropriate clothing.
This body is a temple in which the Lord/Self resides. Hence it is important that this body is not ignored.
7] Don’t burn your eyes on laptop and smartphones for long hours. Screen emit high frequency blue rays that are even more penetrative than UV
You teenagers are in the early stage of life and currently most of your body parts including eyes are hopefully functioning normal. This beautiful world does not look very clear with poor eyesight. I no longer see you and your friends in the park. When I was a teenager, used to leave for playground at 5 AM and come back not before my mother comes to the playground with a chappal or broom or stick. You guys spend your free hours in front of laptop or smartphone and ruin the eyesight. I am now 34 years of age but still my eyesight is normal. I do wear zero power protective eyeglasses when I am in front of computer and take extra care of my eyes. If you still have to play or study electronically then do this.
  • Look 20 feet away for 20 seconds and repeat this every 20 minutes if you have to spend long hours in front of computer.
  • Put some drops of rose water in your eyes when you feel dryness.
  • Wear computer eyeglasses with amber lens to block the harmful rays of your smartphone and laptop etc.
Felix, Pixal, Kolta etc are some good names that provide protective computer eyeglasses
They are different from normal eyeglasses. You may pick just any brand from above that has amber lens.
8] Don’t be over obsessed to achieve any certain goal.
Life has a tendency to give more failures than successes. Currently you must be in a stage where failures are very less. Maximum failure for you is that you fail in any particular exam which you would not even remember after 1–2 years. Ask your parents the number of failures they have experienced in life. Don’t be afraid of trying something new and be prepared for failure. Early success is no less than a poison and later success that arrives after several failures is the real elixir. You guys work very hard but are also extremely afraid of failure. Be fearless my friend. Students see a dream to crack UPSC exam but commit suicide when they fail. Examine the events that take place around you instead of getting too much into any petty examination. let me tell you that I bought shares of Jubilant Foodworks Ltd (Dominoes) when I examined the fact that you guys love to eat pizza. Let me tell you that no UPSC topper can earn such enormous amount of money by his salary that long term investors made by investing in that pizza company.
(Please don’t take any investment decision by getting excited. Read books and take baby steps)

9] Avoid Instagram:-

All social media platforms have pros and cons. But Instagram takes the cake when it comes to cons. There is nothing bad in uploading photos/stories about lavish life style. But if you are among those people who can’t afford it and at the same time getting distracted by it then my friend you should probably avoid Instagram.
Misleading quotes/memes:- We all read memes for entertainment purpose. Read it. Have fun and leave it. Just because you see meme on how meaningless is scoring high-marks doesn’t mean you should score less. Same goes for quotes. Not all of them are applicable in practical life.

10] Your parents will not be with you forever.

Yes, no one lives forever and one day we’ll have to bid a goodbye to everyone, including your parents.
Do not betray them or hurt them at all. They are the ONLY ones who care for you selflessly and will never want bad for you despite all your shortcomings and mistakes. They are the best assets God could ever present you with.
Ask this from a person who has never seen their parents or lost them and you’ll know.
Learn to respect people.Irrespective of their age, caste, colour, social status, looks, affluence or anything. Learn to respect people. It tells all about you. Not all the people you meet will be like you and have same thoughts as you do and trust me, Its okay and rather, its needed.
Do not think twice to say a warm ‘Thank You’ to that waiter who just served you food or that cobbler who just polished your shoe or the security guard who opened the door for you. It will make their day better.
Being courteous and kind does not cost a penny, but feels damn good.

Even if just a single teenager of India starts walking towards the right direction after reading this post I will consider that my time was appropriately utilized by writing this.
